A surface with more than one visual expression

VIVID DUALFINISH™ is a paint protection film family with gloss and matte effects whose appearance changes with light and viewing angle. The defining idea is a finish that responds to how the surface is seen. It offers a different design direction from a uniformly clear high-gloss film or a consistently low-gloss matte application.

This should be understood as an optical appearance effect. It is not an electronically controlled surface, a user-selectable switch or a promise that the vehicle changes its finish on command. The most useful way to evaluate it is to view a physical sample while moving the light, the sample or your viewpoint.

What is documented

PropertyVIVID DUALFINISH™
Thickness7.5–8.5 mil
Finish characterGloss and matte effects
Appearance behaviorChanges with light and viewing angle
Tensile strength45–55 MPa
Elongation220–320%
UV protectionAt least 99%
Surface behaviorSelf-healing and hydrophobic

The thickness is a documented range. It should not be turned into a claim that every finish measures exactly 8.5 mil. Confirm the specification associated with the selected material before comparing it to a fixed-thickness product.

The table also separates appearance from mechanics. A striking visual effect is not itself a measurement of impact resistance. Tensile strength, elongation and UV protection describe different properties; none should be replaced by a broad statement that the finish is “stronger” because it changes under light.

Light, angle and shape all take part

Think of viewing a curved panel while walking past it. Your angle changes continuously, and different parts of the panel reflect the environment differently. A finish designed around gloss and matte effects can make that movement part of the vehicle's appearance.

That makes a small, fixed photograph an incomplete representation. One image records one moment, one exposure and one viewpoint. It cannot promise the same appearance in every setting. When choosing DUALFINISH, the range of visible effects is part of the decision, not an inconsistency to be edited out of the presentation.

Vehicle geometry matters as well. A broad hood, a sharp shoulder line and a curved bumper offer different surfaces for light to interact with. Review the material in a way that approximates the intended use, rather than relying only on a sample held flat under one overhead lamp.

Compare the visual objectives across the range

VIVID PRO and VIVID PRO MAX are clear high-gloss choices. VIVID PRO MATTE™ is a matte choice with a documented 5–10 GU gloss range. VIVID PRO SHIELD COLOR™ emphasizes protection with a wide selection of colors, finishes and textures.

DUALFINISH is appropriate to evaluate when gloss and matte effects changing with light and angle are the intended result. These product families offer distinct starting points. Choosing among them should begin with the surface character you want, then consider construction and the installation plan.

The word “dual” should not be expanded into undocumented properties. It does not establish a reversible film, two independently selectable layers or a temperature-triggered function. Keep the explanation tied to the approved appearance behavior.

A practical sample review

  1. View the actual proposed material rather than a generic finish photograph.
  2. Compare it under broad daylight and the indoor light where the vehicle may often be seen.
  3. Move your viewpoint gradually and observe how the reflection changes.
  4. Consider how the effect will read on both flat and curved areas.
  5. Review the relationship with neighboring paint, glass, trim and wheels.
  6. Confirm that the variation itself matches the owner's preference.

Take reference photographs if useful, but keep their purpose clear: they record a selection discussion, not a guarantee of identical color and reflection under all future lighting. The physical sample and the agreed product identification are the stronger basis for the order.

Installation is part of visual consistency

A finish with changing visual character still needs an intentional installation. The installer should plan panel coverage, boundaries and any orientation considerations for the chosen material. Adjacent areas should be evaluated together so a transition is deliberate rather than accidental.

Ask how complex curves and edges will be handled. Material stretching must respect the instructions for the actual film. A published elongation range is not an installation target or permission to pull the film until the appearance changes. Preserve the intended surface effect while achieving the required fit.

Document the substrate condition before work. Existing paint damage, repairs and contamination do not become irrelevant because the new surface is expressive. Film is applied over what is there; preparation and an honest assessment remain essential.

Living with an appearance that changes

Inspect the finished vehicle in more than one lighting condition. That is especially useful when the selected effect intentionally varies with viewpoint. Separate the expected shift in reflection from actual defects, contamination or a localized area that looks inconsistent with surrounding material.

For care, use the instructions for the selected film and finish. Do not polish a region simply because it looks less glossy from one angle. A process intended to increase shine could work against the visual result. Confirm cleaner and maintenance-product compatibility before applying them across the vehicle.

Supported self-healing is limited to light surface scratches. It does not repair deep cuts, tears or missing material. Hydrophobic behavior does not mean the surface is maintenance-free. If a persistent mark or unusual patch appears, have it assessed before attempting aggressive treatment.

DUALFINISH describes an appearance that changes with light and angle. It should never be presented as automatic damage repair or a guarantee of one fixed visual result in every setting.

Choose the effect deliberately

DUALFINISH is most useful when the owner wants the interaction between material, light and shape to be part of the design. Confirm the selected material, coverage, expected visual range and care instructions in the installation brief.
